What happened?

Remember the UOB Lady's Card's iconic tagline, "The men don't get it"? Well, the times have changed!

Since July 2023, the UOB Lady’s Card has been made available to both male and female applicants, allowing cardholders to benefit from one of the ultimate rewards cards in Singapore.

More recently, UOB has refreshed the UOB Lady’s Card and the UOB Lady’s Savings Account, offering up to 10 miles per S$1 (10 mpd) with ‘The Unstoppable Pairing’.

For the men reading this  – you can now apply for the UOB Lady’s Savings Account to accelerate your miles earned too.

If you have been wondering how you can maximise your rewards with the UOB Lady’s Savings Account and UOB Lady’s Card, this post is meant for you!

What is the UOB Lady’s Card?

Firstly, there are two cards for you to choose from: The UOB Lady's Card and the UOB Lady's Solitaire Card.

The UOB Lady’s Card allows you to earn 0.4 mpd on all categories, and 4 mpd in one bonus category, with a cap to the bonus category spend at S$1,000 per month.

This makes the card ideal if you are new to rewards programmes and have a moderate spending.

The UOB Lady’s Solitaire Card has a higher minimum income requirement, but allows you to earn the 4 mpd across two bonus categories with a cap to the bonus categories spend at S$2,000 per month.

This means that it is important for us to choose the right preferred rewards category or categories when we sign up for a UOB Lady’s Card.

The Unstoppable Pairing – UOB Lady’s Savings Account with UOB Lady’s Card

You may have noticed that the UOB Lady’s Card offers 4 miles per dollar for your spend in your preferred category.

This may look like any other miles card on the surface.

But, WAIT! There is actually more to the reward system which can prove why this card is the queen of miles card.

Introducing… the UOB Lady’s Savings Account.

With just S$10,000 monthly average balance in your UOB Lady’s Savings account, you can earn up to 6 miles per dollar instead of the 4 miles per dollar with this ‘Unstoppable Pairing’.

This reward system is a tiered one where you will earn more miles per dollar based on your average monthly balance in the UOB Lady’s Savings Account. If you have S$100,000 and above average monthly balance, you can earn up to 10 mpd on your UOB Lady’s Card.

My playbook for earning more miles with the Unstoppable Pairing

The UOB Lady’s Savings account is unlike its buddy – the UOB One Account, as it only offers an interest rate of 0.05% per annum.

Hence, the reason I would put my money in the UOB Lady’s Savings Account is to earn the extra mile per dollar, not the interest rate.

There must be some opportunity costs to earning the additional miles rewards, and it is the lower interest rate compared to the UOB One Account or UOB Stash Account.

For me, I will be depositing S$10,000 in the Lady’s Savings Account and maxing out my bonus cap each month ie S$1,000 for the UOB Lady’s Card and S$2,000 for UOB Lady’s Solitaire Card to make the most of additional rewards that come with the Unstoppable Pairing.

For those of you who prefer to look at numbers, let me demonstrate why earning 6 miles per dollar is awesome.

Illustration #1 – Maximising UOB Lady’s Card if you value a business class redemption flight at full price

Assuming we spend S$1,000 a month, we can earn 72,000 miles in a year with the Unstoppable Pairing and getting 6 miles per dollar.

To help you with the calculation, you can check out the calculator on UOB’s website.

This is way faster than earning 4 miles per dollar with the UOB Lady’s Card, where you would only be earning 48,000 miles after a year.

UOB Lady’s Card4 mile per dollar6 miles per dollar
Miles earned per month (based on S$1,000 spend)4,0006,000
Miles earned per year (based on S$1,000 spend)48,00072,000

Now, you might be wondering if it is worth it with the interest of 0.05% p.a. received on the UOB Lady’s Account.

At this point, it is important to note that every one may place a different value to a mile.

But since most of us love Japan and it is now the Sakura season, let’s use a one-way SQ business class ticket to Tokyo as an illustration.

A business saver award ticket will cost us 52,000 miles, while a business advantage award ticket will cost us 70,000 miles.

A one-way business class ticket costs about $2,500. Using the business advantage award redemption of 70,000 miles since flights for the Sakura season are always snapped up quickly, this means that our personal value of a mile may be about 3.6 cents

With the additional 2 mile per dollar on a S$12,000 annual spend, we are getting an additional $860 worth of miles (24,000 x 3.6 cents).

The interest we may receive for depositing the S$10,000 in an alternative savings account offering an interest rate of 3.0% may be about S$300.

This means that we will still have a net gain with the additional miles received with the Unstoppable Pairing.

Illustration #2 – Maximising UOB Lady’s Card if you value an economy class redemption flight at full price

Assuming we spend S$2,000 a month on the UOB Lady’s Solitaire Card, we can earn 144,000 miles in a year with the Unstoppable Pairing.

This would be 48,000 miles more than if we were earning 4 miles per dollar.

UOB Lady’s Solitaire Card4 mile per dollar6 miles per dollar
Miles earned per month (based on S$2,000 spend)8,00012,000
Miles earned per year (based on S$2,000 spend)96,000144,000

If you decide to book a return ticket economy class ticket instead, the Economy Saver Award ticket will require 54,000 miles and the Economy Advantage Award ticket will require 90,000 miles.

This means that compared to just redeeming an Economy Advantage Award Ticket by earning 4mpd, we would now be able to redeem one Economy Advantage Award ticket plus one additional Economy Saver Award ticket with the Unstoppable Pairing!

Illustration #3 – Maximising UOB Lady’s Card if you value a redemption flight at the price of an alternative flight

Now, let’s use another illustration where we may be willing to pay S$1,300 for a full-flat business class ticket to Japan on ZIPAIR.

In this case, we may compare the 70,000 miles to redeem a Singapore Airlines business class ticket with the S$1,300 we would have to spend buying this ticket.

This will mean that we may value the mile at 1.9 cents per mile.

With the additional 2 mile per dollar on a S$12,000 annual spend, we are getting an additional $456 worth of miles (24,000 x 1.9 cents).

This once again represents a net gain with the additional miles received.

What would Beansprout do?

The Unstoppable Pairing of UOB Lady’s Savings Account and UOB Lady’s Card looks appealing to me as a way to earn even more miles with my card spending.

With very few cards offering 6mpd these days, I would definitely be making hay while the sun shines.

However, I will be mindful that our savings in UOB Lady’s Savings Account will not earn us a bonus interest rate unlike the UOB One Savings Account.

As such, I would make sure that the value of the additional miles I am earning from the Unstoppable Pairing can more than offset any potential loss in interest

To make the most of the Unstoppable Pairing, the sweet spot to me would be to have S$10,000 of deposits in the UOB Lady’s Savings Account, and to max out the bonus cap of S$1,000 monthly spending on the UOB Lady’s Card and S$2,000 monthly spending on the UOB Lady’s Solitaire Card.

The UOB Lady’s Savings Account is now open to men too, and you can click here to sign up and enjoy the extra miles that come with the Unstoppable Pairing.
